🌱 Luminy® PLA: A Breakthrough in Low-Carbon Bioplastics
TotalEnergies Corbion has just released new life cycle assessment (LCA) data for its Luminy® PLA, showing remarkable progress in reducing carbon emissions. Verified by a third party and aligned with ISO standards, the results mark a significant milestone for sustainable materials.
🔍 Key Findings from the 2025 LCA Report:
- Virgin PLA (from sugarcane):
Only 0.29 kg CO₂-eq/kg, an 85% reduction compared to traditional plastics. - With 30% recycled content:
Carbon neutral at just 0.01 kg CO₂-eq/kg. - 100% recycled PLA:
Achieves a negative carbon footprint of -0.65 kg CO₂-eq/kg, thanks to biogenic carbon benefits.
♻ Why It Matters
Luminy® PLA is:
- Bio-based
- Industrially compostable
- Recyclable
These features enable a circular bioeconomy and support industries in meeting carbon reduction goals.
“This is a major step forward for bioplastics,” said Thomas Philipon, CEO of TotalEnergies Corbion.
